I am fairly new to this site and find it intriguing and uplifting plus the dialoging helps me learn. I have often asked myself how I would have reacted were I to participate in the test of compliance where one is to administer shocks to another for failing certain tests. I know this must come across the minds of others who witness these tests. Most administer shocks even though the other person (falsely) is screaming in pain. Of course, in hindsight, most would say they would not go on but the evidence proves otherwise. Everyone I have asked about their supposed reaction has said they would have stopped. Also, is there evidence about those few who declined to proceed when the level reached a certain point?
To me this paints a realistic picture humans – neither bad nor good just surviving, or, often unconsciously reacting. However, one must rule out mob mentality as there is no mob present in this experiment.
