Recently I stumbled upon this gem of a series: After Life with Ricky Gervais. I think I found all episodes on Netflix. Gervais is a famous atheist and a foul mouth ( if you have ever seen his routines, you know what you can expect) but this series touched me deeply. OK, I cried when the junkie died. But it is a brilliant piece of writing and directing, and the characters are genuine. Waiting for the second season now.
Thanks for the suggestion. I decided to splurge and try Netflix since I'm home most of the time. I like Ricky Gervais a lot.
where you two been? read my post, about Groucho, think you will like it!! WHY A DUCK?
I loved this series. I hope there is not a second season, because it was so complete in itself.
That psychotherapist . Total twat !!
I agree! Loved the prostitue, sorry, sex worker. All the characters are so archetypical, that's what makes it so good.
@Spinliesel yes, she was TERRIFIC !
Totally agree. I think I saw something saying that the second season was coming soon and I just wondered how they could possibly add to that.
Some comments say that his character was too depressing at the beginning, but I must be weird because I always love characters who are depressed/depressing for completely understandable reasons. It makes me feel better when I am in such depressing situations (knowing others know what I'm going through, and maybe know worse).
welcome to the world of trying to turn shit into a joke!!
kinda like Ricky Gervais!!
@aahouck49 I've also been partial to absurdist humor.
@greyeyed123 THE THEATER OF THE ABSURD!
OSCAR WILDE: VULGARITY IS NOT SUBTIUTE FOR WIT!
as he lay dying in that cheap hotel room in Paris, he said either this wallpaper goes or I go! He left.
It was remarkably touching.
Yes, I agree with you.
I just signed up for Netflix - I will search for it and watch it - thank you.
I watched the whole season twice, I've had friends that challenged me on his transphobia but I'm a person who always believes in engaging rather than disengaging. I'm not convinced boycotting his work will have any material benefit for transgender people?
maybe they should stop being so damn sensitive about it, almost nobody even knew what a transgender meant back in the day.
this it the way my mother explained it to me: she said hone, some people are alone, and they live together, and make a happy home, you know those wonderful women you like so much that own the music store you visit them almost everyday, that is what they did. I said I think that is a good thing for them to do and she said yes it is but not everyone thinks that but you and I do.
my hometown had many of them that did this, and nobody gave it a second thought, but then again all of us were expected to act properly in public!!!
so if you go out on the streets, showing your damn asses then stop being so damn sensitive about it and stop throwing shade of Groucho Marx!!!
I just watched an old interview with William Buckley, I use to love to watch him, his voice, his vocabulary skills, the way he just did what he did, he enchanted me, so he was doing and interview with Groucho and this is what he said:
"he said maybe I can be "funny" for about 8 minutes---but comedians are the darkest most depressed people who will ever meet---funny--NO,
how that got sent before I finished, so to continue from above;
funny---NO--JUST TRYING TO TURN SHIT INTO A JOKE!"
The series as a whole was so-so but the ending was really sweet.
Saw Ricky on pierce Morgan on CNN smart guy as a freethinker take him or leave him.
I have to admit, I almost stopped watching after the first few episodes but I'm glad I finished watching. It was very well done and the characters were well rounded.
Stardust, the Neil Gaiman novel?
@Spinliesel I can't believe I didn't know this was a book. Now I'm looking to get the book, lol. But yes.
Cannot stop myself:
Read this book: WHY A DUCK?
introduction by GROUCHO MARX, edited by RICHARD J. ANOBILE.
trust me, you will piss you pants laughting!!!
this is my present to all fathers, sons, and daughters, and mothers , this book is for EVERYBODY!!
AS GROUCHO DID IT FOR EVERYBODY!! AND DO YOU KNOW WHAT THEY DID TO HIM??
the good old boys that owned the tv station, read all about it, he was thrown to the dogs, all of you trans what so evers!!
good grief, stop whining and as RuPaul would say, toughen up bitches!!! or I will kick you bitch asses!!
Smug little transphobe, too. Shame, because he's actually a clever and funny guy. But I've been boycotting his work because of some of his horrible comments. I never did get The Office, but I used to quite enjoy Extras.
Whatever floats your boat, dear.
Enjoyed Extras.
Loved it. He has always been an insightful yet hilarious observer of mankind’s foibles and shortcomings. I’d say he’s a national treasure, but he’s British. Check out Derek as well on Netflix. Another great series.
