Over the years I have realised that my motivations are more philanthropic than for material acquisition.

When I work in an environment which is to be supportive to others I feel alive. When I have worked in the corporate world I feel something wilts. Is this common with any others here?

If the only value your work has is in making yourself or someone else money, it will be unfulfilling except to the most shallow of human beings.

Although Fox News is now reporting that people return wallets with money in it more often than empty ones because people see money as the driving factor of value in life. (Facepalm.)

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. I have the same feeling about investments.

When I retired I turned my energy to the Red Cross, and have been gratified I could go tondisasters and help.

The corporate environments that I have worked in have killed my soul. I can't give an opinion on the other one, but I have always felt good when helping people.

It depends on the service provided and how fair the trade is.
