Knitting website bans support for Trump
The popular knitting website Ravelry is banning users from expressing support for the US President Donald Trump and his administration on its platform.
On Sunday night, a tweet, which has now been shared almost 10,000 times and attracted 13,000 comments, said: "We cannot provide a space that is inclusive of all and also allow support for open white supremacy. Support of the Trump administration is undeniably support for white supremacy."
I have been a member of Ravelry for over 15 years...it is a group of people from all over the world. Most of the people are supportive and share values that include compassion and tolerance of all age groups, ethnic groups, and skill levels...we had several groups that knitted and donated the pink pussy hats for various protests and most are involved in some sort of charity and we all love to participate.
I am glad that they finally made a decision on this. It was becoming alarming to the majority of the group that some members were knitting what we considered offensive and hurtful items...blankets with Nazi symbols are not "art"...
If you mean the swastika - it is an ancient symbol used in India to signify spirituality (stolen by nazis) so maybe that blanket is supposed to wrap someone in a warm spiritual embrace
@ShadowAmicus I doubt that white women wearing MAGA hats and posing with such blankets have any iota of warmth spiritual embrace...
@thinktwice probably not - didn't see any pics -----what is a MAGA hat?
@ShadowAmicus Make America Great Again...or, for us liberals, Make this Asshole Go Away... It was his theme...
@thinktwice know the strapline - just didn't make the connection ..... expect there will be a new hat out soon.
@ShadowAmicus I hope it is more like the ones Eugenie and Beatrice wore...
That web site is a stitch
Seriously... good for them.!!
