The universe provides such sweet opportunity! I was just in line at the grocery store with a young man of about 20 checking out in front of me. His purchases were a large pack of broccoli, a big bag of spinach, sweet peppers, organic chicken, oatmeal, brown rice, and trail mix. Sometimes, there is “just something“ about a situation and this was one of them, so I said “Wow, you are an inspiration – that’s about the healthiest bunch of groceries anyone could possibly buy“.
He turned to me with a bit of surprise, then saw my smile and he just beamed and puffed up with pride. He said “Hey thanks, this is the first time I’ve gone grocery shopping by myself, for myself, and paying for it all without my mom or anyone else!”
He started humming as he gathered his bags to leave, turned to give me a shy smile and a wave, and I will savor this experience for a long while.
