Not sure how I like the way most bands are touring these days. Seeing 2 or 3 great bands at one time is nice but each band has such a limited time that you don't get to hear many deep cuts or "B" sides. They tend to just play their most popular songs. I think I liked it better when it was the headliner and maybe an up and coming band, opening and playing for like 45 minutes. Thoughts???
My favourite band only tour on their own....they sell out even the biggest venues without any help from other acts. They are doing an extensive stadium tour in the autumn...luckily including Belfast...they are the brilliant a-ha!
I don’t have to worry about all that crap because the artists I listen to still play full sets when they tour, and most of them don’t even get played on commercial, corporately owned radio anyway.
The musicians I tend to follow rarely play a venue larger that the nearest pub or bar - but that’s fine - it’s much more intimate than a stadium setting.
Hell, I’m not even sure I remember the last time I saw a show at a venue larger than 3,000 seats. I think it was Journey, Foreigner and Night Ranger at the Shoreline Ampitheater in Mountain View, CA about five years ago. Before that was probably Peter Gabriel at McNickols Arena in Denver back in the 90’s.
None of those shows even comes close to matching the lasting impression made by Steven Wilson on the Hand. Cannot. Erase. tour at the Boulder Theater in Boulder, CO, or Kamelot on the Poetry For The Poisoned Tour at Slim’s in San Francisco, or David Wilcox on the How Did You Find Me Here tour at the Paramount Theater in Denver, or the Goo Goo Dolls (back when they were still good) on the Boy Named Goo tour at the Mercury Cafe in Denver, or Dragonforce on the Maximum Overload tour at the Ogden Theater in Denver. The list goes on and on.
@Haemish1 Not sure how many the venue seats but I have heard from friends that concerts there are amazing with the acoustics from the natural formations.
