Hello everyone. Its been a rough week with my mom who suffers from dementia. I struggle with why states think its their right to keep a person alive who is suffering like she is. She is constantly paranoid, hallucinating, and crying. She is also in a wheelchair from polio she got as a child. Animals who suffer are put out of their misery, the same should be available for dementia and Alzheimer's patients. My heart breaks everyday for her. I did find out that a bill is on the floor in MO named "Die with Dignity". If it passes it will go in effect 8.28.18. She is not at peace, hasn't been for a while now. What are your thoughts on the right to die? In her lucid moments she has said she wants to pass and be with my dad and no one should have to go thru what she is going thru now. Broken heart here.

We have it in colorado, and I think it IS a right to die with dignity. The person has to be fully competent to get the prescription. And then you have to be able to administer it to yourself when the time comes. [Sorry about your mon]

Thanks, what if they are not competent? I am POA and medical POA as well with my sister. I hope they don't create a road block. Thanks for the info. I'm keeping an eye on the progress of the bill here.
@Presley1209 if they are not competent, they still call it a criminal act, I'm afraid.

@Presley1209 as medical POA, and if she has been adjudicated incompetent, you likely have the right to accept or refuse treatment on her behalf. But not administering anything lethal, of course.

I have never gotten emotional reading something on this site, but your story made me tear up. I feel so bad for the both you. I truly hope something changes so both of you can find peace.

Oh, I'm sorry to have upset you. Thank you for your kind words. Its a horrible disease and nobody should have to go through it, on both sides. My mom has gone from the sweetest person I know to a hateful violent person. Its heartbreaking.
