Hi, my name is Scott Helgeson and I am a retired professor of Biology. I am 67 years old and live in Indianola, Iowa USA which is 12 miles south of Des Moines. Since I am no longer teaching at Des Moines Area Community College, I have decided to teach by blogging and writing prose and poetry often by rewriting popular or familiar songs with phrases which basically fit their structure but deal with contemporary issues or concerns including sociological and political ones.

I am in good health basically though I take a mild blood pressure medication (Lisinopril) and an anticonvulsant due to some seizures I had for reasons which were never discovered in any tests which I took – (Cat Scans and EEG’s where initiating stimuli were used to try to induce seizure activity but did not do so). I walk at least 2 miles 3 or 4 times per week, sometimes more up til every day.
I do not believe in Organized religion. I believe in Karma and reincarnation because to me, life is a process of continuous learning and there is no way we can learn all there is to know in just one lifetime.
This picture says everything you need to know about my spirituality. This is a shot of the Universe with the Hubble Telescope and what you are seeing is not stars. Every single dot from the largest you can see to the tiniest one that is barely visible is a galaxy like our own Milky Way. Some of them are smaller and most are as large or larger than ours. It is estimated that there are 650 Billion of them altogether and each would contain a minimum of a billion stars, (except for the so-called Dwarf Galaxies which may have as few as 500 million. If you look at the vastness of our Universe without taking quantum probability constructs into consideration you will still see that we need an infinite number of experiences to even begin the process of comprehending it. Judeo/Christian and Islamic religions are Terra-centric which means they only consider Earth like it was the center of this vastness yet to look at the photograph above, one can see that there is no basis for this type of constricted thinking.
