The high cost of medical care. Have you had a tech or nurse use a vein illuminator prior to stabbing you? I found out yesterday that that "procedure" cost $543 and is not covered by all insurances. I was flabbergasted! I can buy a similar device on Amazon for less than $100.
i have veins sticking out on my arms. i've had nurses tell me that it's a relief to draw blood from me after struggling to find veins on other patients.
Me too. It takes someone really inept to not be able to draw blood from me. My veins just pop up and say "take me!"
A great indicator of how broken our profit driven healthcare system is.
I work for a "not for profit" hospital...
Are you saying the procedure would have cost $543 less if the nurse didnt use the vein illuminator?
I'm sure that is the theory.
Depends if you're talking insurance and all their rules about how/what gets paid, or if it was a cash payer, who just gets an itemized bill.
Used on me a while back medicare covered it
Are u talking ultrasound or a simple vein finder device ?
That's strange . We don't record such a device use for billing . There is not a place to enter such charge for billing , at least not in acute care , I am surprised to read this .
We have such devices and everyone is free to use them , nobody cares .
I have my own , ( a pocket one , got from amazon like u said long time ago for 400 bucks ). That's Bcz I am lazy and I have no time to wait for anyone to stroll me one when I need one
If there are hospitals charging for the use of such devices , wow
