I liked Hitchens ...he was erudite and could demolish any religious argument with one hand tied behind his back.....but let us not deify him, or Dawkins either, or we veer dangerously into sounding like a religion and a bunch of followers ourselves!

i've never read hitchens. somehow i became an atheist at an early age anyway. that is not to knock hitchens, but NEED (instead of a savior)?

Religious people argue science does not know everything. That is where God comes in. The Bible supports everything science has discovered.

I don’t get the fascination with Hitchens, Dawkins and the like. To each their own I suppose.

Needing to be "saved" was certainly something that bothered me--even when I was still a believer. I would look at an innocent baby, or child, and think that their default destination was hell and he/she would go there unless they were saved (unless they died before the age of accountability--whatever age that was). And, saved from what? Well, from a punishment this supposed loving god decided upon (at least according to the religion I was brought up in). I wondered why this god make it that way--especially if it was a god of infinite love. When I was finally able to let go of my belief in this god I felt so liberated. My mind was no longer filled with all that garbage and I no longer had to make sense out of so much nonsense. And, now, I can love the science I was taught to fear and ignore.

Science, yes -- that and knowledge and reasoning power. I don't need Hutchins. I figured it out on my own some 60 years ago.

Who needs to be saved by any sort of savior, especially if you have done nothing wrong, but lived your life!

The saviour was the person who offered eternal life to humanity, making life in this world meaningful. Now that most people suppose there is no existence after death, we have to find meaning enough in this life. Will people like Christopher Hitchens help people achieve this? I'm watching Jon Vervaeke's YT videos at the moment called Awakening from the Meaning Crisis:

Who needs a savior when there is nothing to be saved from?

A savior from what? It boils down to the fact that Jesus is going to save you from what god promised to do to you if you do not believe. It's a setup. You have been trapped. Many theists point out that Jesus saves you from your enemies and bad things that might happen to you, but world events doesn't back this up. If you fall for it you can then understand why heaven has a gate and also walls. Apparently if you make it to heaven there might be enemies outside the city. OMG, what do we do?

I've been listening to Hitchens quite a bit lately. Enjoy his knowledge, wit and sarcasm!
