Public Service Announcement from the Mormons:
After I left the Mormon church, I had another small Mormon offshoot try to convert me. They emphasized to me the differences between their church and the main Mormon church. They banned chocolate as well.
I should invite them to the Common Grounds coffee shop in my neighborhood and suggest they buy a Caffiene Orgasm and a Dirty Girl Scout
Saw the video too. What is that building ? Is it a church or a theme park castle, the one Walt Disney rejected ?
That would be the Salt Lake City Mormon temple located across ftom the Church Office Building where all the church business is centered. If I remember corre tly, it's where Mormons believe Jesus will return.
A funny story: Years ago before the Mormon church bought the section of Main Street between the Salt Lake temple and the office building, tour buses would stop on Main Street in front of the temple where two huge wooden doors faced the street. Tour guides explained that these doors were to remain closed until Jesus returned to the earth and Jesus opened them to announce his return. On one occasion, a tour bus stopped and the guide gave his shpeel, and to everyone's amazement, one of the doors began to open. Out stepped a janitor with his mop, bucket, and other cleaning supplies.
@RussRAB Jesus in disguise . . .?
Their whole “religion”... some Christians actually question whether it is, or is not, a religion, is based on the ravings of Joseph Smith, a charlatan who had a vision ...and as we know is basically a load of bullshit...so this is no surprise. The younger generation are realising that the whole idea of Mormonism is nonsensical and are...(big sin)...drinking coffee like normal people, so the elders are having to tighten the reins, lest they lose them to the gods of Starbucks and Costa!
@motrubl4u Brigham Young? Porter Rockwell?
I suspected something like this was coming. The last time I had a caramel frappuccino latte I could clearly taste coffee with undertones of SATAN!
Religion never disappoints me, they never run out of new ways to be ridiculous.
I feel kind of bad for local 'mom & pop' coffee shops in Utah. If a lot of Mormons used to drink coffee then this will affect those shops greatly.
Are you trying to be funny? Coffee has been banned by the Mormon church for a long time. Somehow, the coffee shops in Utah thrive anyway . . .
@UpsideDownAgain I wasn't trying to be funny. I'm not an expert in what Mormons do and don't do, so I thought the coffee ban was something recent that could affect small coffee shops in Utah that might have needed their Mormon community's business.
@joeymf86 Gotcha. It almost came off as a joke.
This is a copy of my comment on another Agnostic post.
Nah. The independent_co_uk link cites an LDS youth mag article that says their Doctrine Of Covenants prohibits 'hot drinks' which they interpret to include all coffee drinks and what they consider to be 'harmful or habit forming substances'. They said if you're ordering in a coffee shop, you're probably getting coffee.
I want to know why cocoa and soup aren't included. Aren't they hot liquids? I guess all Mormons will have to go to gazpacho. Lol.
