Hello All,

Here is a question which I didn't find good answers in YouTube.

Why do people want to have kids?

Why do people prefer to loose lot of their time, energy and money on raising kids?

Does every couple makes a conscious decision before having kids?

I see most of the parents lives revolving around their children?
Leavings office early due to school timings, planning vacations along with the children's summer holidays. Discussing about their kids during lunchtime, evening.
Some of them don't really achieve anything in their career and sacrificing all their low earnings for the family expenses.

Moving to new bigger house to accommodate newly born baby, growing kids .. although when nothing really changed in their financial status?

I understand it gives lot of pleasure to spend time with kids, but what I fail to understand is that do the couples make a conscious choice based on their career aspirations, economic stability and the amount of their prime adult and energetic time they loose by having kids?
Or
Are they unconsciously following the society?

As the couples are not living with their parents anymore, they lose the family support and often doesn't know how to handle babies, plus daycare expenses before school age.

Having children doesn't seem to be a good option for a middle class income couple in the 21st century.

Can someone please enlighten me on this subject?

I've traced my ancestry back to 800 AD I chose to find a partner that wanted kids to continue that ancestry. We had two and one has delivered a grand baby and none of it hurt us financially. It didn't prevent us from owning a home or realizing any other aspects of the American dream.

It is a biological urge to procreate, thankfully, or there would be no one to pay my pension.
Those who deliberately do not have children are suppressing this urge.
having a large number of children is selfish, and there should be an absolute maximum of three children per couple.

Complete nonsense - if people are limited to just three children but an epidemic kills them - then what? The family line, the family business, the ability to care for our seniors and so on ends with them. We wouldn't be here as a species if humans were limited to three kids. Are all other species limited to three? Of course not and that's why they survive to this day.

@SLBushway The replacement ratio is 2.1/1 and most western countries are well below this. South Korea is actually below 1/1.Developed countries depend on immigrants but cultural differences cause conflicts as can be seen with Brexit and the fiasco at the US/ Mexican border.

The world population has increased dramatically in the past decades. It is currently over 7billion and forecast to increase to just under 10billion and then drop dramatically . Where do you think those people are going to go ?. They will be killed in pandemics or wars fought over scarce resources.

Much better to keep the population stable than have this happen.
Of course some species breed indiscriminately, the populations increase dramatically and then collapse. Do you want to be a lemming ?

@Moravian There are a lot of variables that you're not taking into consideration. Your comment was nonsense - I'm going to leave it at that.

@SLBushway 🙂

My personal take on it is pretty radical, because I grew up in a bad situation . . . . I think that people have kids for egotistical reasons, more so much more nowadays, because given the situation the earth is in, the population, etc, the last thing we need is more people, and I think that the current generation of kids are going to face some very seriously difficult times, if they survive at all . . . . between the weaponization of the world (nuclear) and the trashing of the environment, the shit is getting ready to hit the fan, and it is going to hit it very hard.

I hated kids, babies especially.. Warned my wife I’d likely never want any, she married me anyway. Hit my mid-thirties, and it’s like a switch flipped… hers had always remained on.. So we went for a couple.

Now, I consider them my greatest achievements. Their joys become mine, and it’s quite obvious how these improved versions of ‘me’ (and their mother) will hopefully outlive us by many years...

Work? You bet! I was an ‘at-home-dad,’ doing 16 to 18 hour days … with some ‘home-schooling’ tossed in.. Cost? Never-ending! Value? Priceless ~

I think the key is waiting for ‘that switch to flip.’ If it doesn't, don’t make them.. And of course - never create them because it’s ‘what’s expected.’ Love mine, and they love me … though I’ve heard it doesn't always turn out that way..

Our planet’s not hurting for humans, and one of mine is not planning on having any ...but then she’s the one most like me, and perhaps her switch has not yet flipped 🙂

Different reasons I suppose, some having to do with religious thought, some having to do with wanting little mini mes. I personally think that children are a luxury. I do not have any.

I agree.People are brainwashed by society and their family and have a follow the leader mentality..I think it is irresponsible to have more than one or two children in this age of pollution and overpopulation.I admire individuals that choose not to have children .Fortunately my wife and I chose to have only one child who luckily turned out to be successful and self sufficient
