Dry run in the bus today, school begins Sept. 3. Summer was good but coming to a close. I like fall too, leaves changing, cool crisp mornings. Hope winter isn't as brutal as last year with fifty below wind chills.
I drove a school bus for several years. I really don't miss the bratty kids or getting up at zero dark thirty, esp. in the winter, to get in the bus in the cold, dark mornings. Best of luck with this school year.
Kids aren't too bad, I drive 4k through sixth grade. Not bratty so much as full of energy so they like to keep moving. I walk to work too but it's only a couple of blocks.
@Mark013 As I say, one reason I quit was bratty kids. What made it bad is the school district outsourced the busing long before I got hired and over time since then it got worse every year with the lack of support and respect the parents and school officials had for the bus drivers. By the time I retired I was sick of writing kids up over and over without the principals ever honoring the write ups and giving out suspensions for the bus. I got tired of being in a job where I was an authority figure with no real power and still expected to keep a safe, orderly bus. It was an impossible situation and it didn't help to regularly have middle school or HS kids tell me that I must be some sort of loser because I was driving a school bus. I wonder where they heard that from? Their parents, of course.......And yet the parents and school officials became more demanding and critical every year of the drivers. Plus, our word was never taken by the principals for anything on discipline reports. We had to have video evidence of all misconduct because, of course, we were lying until proven innocent. Too much bullshit for me......
