I missed this yesterday, but I still want to give the shout out anyway because He was one of my favorite vocalists, in one of my all time favorite bands.
Layne Staley, RIP.
August 22, 1967 – April 5, 2002
The Mayor of Seatle even named Aug 22, "Layne Staley Day", I thought that was pretty cool.
There used to be an interview with Layne Staley on You Tube , where he talks about his heroin addiction and how he was going to die. It fascinated and upset me because he had just committed suicide exactly the way he described it.So tragic. The video disappeared from you tube soon after .
I have seen that one. And yes it was sad.
He was forthcoming about his addiction even when writing "Dirt". Quite a few songs on that album are about that. Which to me is bitter sweet. On one hand, it's my favorite album, music, lyrics, the whole thing. On the other hand, it really sad at knowing just how gone, even then he was. Such a shame.
@TristanNuvo Oh, I am glad there is another person who saw that interview. I have been thinking that i had imagined it.
@Spinliesel Yeah. There are quite a few things about/with him that have since been taken down. Not sure why, but some of them were real gems. There was a great live show with him and "Mad Season" that was taken down as well, which really sucks because it was a great show.
He had such a distinct voice. " Eat of the apple so young"..
He's in my top 5 all time favorite vocalists
