As an outsider I cannot help but conclude many many people in the USA are suffering from Stockholm syndrome, they know they are in a cage, they know they are abused but have grown to love the bars, feel safe within them and as does the beaten wife they see the abuse by government agencies and social tradition as a sign of love and protection.
They are so comfortable within their cell that everything outside seems unknowable, wrong, frightening and dangerous.
Better the devil you know?
