I have long held the position that people use god like a spare tire or switchblade. They just whip it out when they need to justify whatever BS they are espousing. Here is a wonderful example of using the bible as a mask for deeply held bigotry. Of all the religions, christianity is, IMO, the absolute worst and most destructive force used to justify the worst of human behavior.

The part that gets me, and no one seems to be talking about, is that in her apology she says that she 'assumed' that it was in the bible because she was raised that way... That means several specific things. 1 ) She's a racist, pure and simple. 2 ) Just because she has now finally, after her whole life of not doing so, read her fucking sincerely held revered 'holy' book of fairy tales, she now sees that she's been a bigot this entire time for no reason (which is a fucking lie, and she is a racist because she is a fucking redneck racist POS, book or no book), and 3 ) She thinks this apology is gonna somehow keep her from getting sued like Kim Davis.
Christianity, for all its "love thy neighbor", is, in practice, really all about: "fear and hate the OTHER". In part it has to do with the insistence on exclusivity; ONLY Christianity provides a path to God. And ONLY this or that particular church. Yes, it is madness. The real problem is that we tolerate it and continue to give Freedom of Religion a priority it doesn't deserve (it can no longer be justified).
