Just returned from Gabriola Island, did a little shoot with poi star Jackie Jane. Her poi were broken however so we just did a regular shoot, sort of a nature goddess thing with a twist or two. Amazing location, Berry Point, the light was incredible and the ocean was breathing deep all the while. Nature and human nature have always been entirely intertwined, the forms are often echoed one to the other, at least in the human consciousness, which is predisposed to view all from a human perspective of scale. It's magic that these forms are also echoed in the micro and the macro however, there is some math behind that, some fundamental principals of nature, pi and the golden ration, physics is, of course, the study of nature. We are also predisposed to conjure up what we conceive of as beauty and harmony. All the while at the micro scale, there is always a great deal of discord, it's just beyond the ken of our senses so we discount it, ignore it or are simply unaware of it. Probably for the best. When one looks too closely at any idyllic scene, one finds a constant life and death struggle between various manifestations of life. It's always there, in the most well balanced pastoral or oceanic scene, just below the surface of scale. We humans idealize everything in order to assuage our fears, our fear of death, our fear of the unknown, we temper our vision with wishful and optimistic thinking/viewing.

Her poi were broken? Poi star? The only poi I'm familiar with is the Hawaiian porridge made using taro.
