I am posting under health and happiness because I realized my health and happiness are taking a hit with my job. This is my busiest time of year. Start if school always is. I am working almost 7 days a week to meet some fiscal deadlines and I just realized I am not hapoy with this pace of work at all. I am blowing off friends and not having any time to myself. Special education and finances are intertwined in a crappy way. So I am tired and grumpy!
I feel you. I am doing a masters on top of my full time job and itβs kicking my ass. And my best friend is struggling with her emotional health because her job is so stressful. Make sure you are taking care of yourself.
Mental and physical health should come first. I struggle with that.
@GreatNani a lot of us do
You realized your health and happiness are taking a hit with your job. That's the first step to making changes so that you begin practicing self care. Think more about what is for your highest good. I realize your job is important, but so are you. Sending hugs your way.
Thank you. I tend to not put myself first.
@GreatNani A lot of us women do that. We need to remind each other that our own needs are important too.
@Redheadedgammy yes! Remind our friends and family we matter too!
@GreatNani. Find a rich Playboy... Go full Hedonist while you still have the Right Stuff, haha!
LoL! Well, I am 52 so not sure I have the right stuff but that is certainly a thought!
Remember too, that many of us are seasonal, or at least have our busy times of year ( accountants Dec. thru April...then 3 days a week!) . Eventually you'll find your rhythm to your life
Sorry I thought you were younger than 52, or I wouldn't have written in "eventually"....I hope that you have already found the rhythm to your life!!
@GreatNani I would not disagree with that, I would suppose that some do. Sure...why not if you can!
My opinion is that controlling the ebb and flow ( highs & lows) are important. Time for breaks / "me time" ...if not you have a tiger by the tail.
As a self employed seasonal worker, without ever having a 2nd household income, I flogged myself pretty hard for a number of years. There is much that I would change if I could go back. All is good now.
Have you felt this way before?
If it's temporaray , then of course it will pass.
Your realization of this, signals an awareness. An awareness that empowers you to put a limit on it. Be rational, crunch the numbers and then you decide what you need to invest to put you where you want/ need to be.
My life was ate up by this in the past. At age 60, and single, with finances in order I have more control.
Anyway, by Labor Day I am burnt out on the roofing season. I know I have to push for 2 more months, then it's 4+ months of part-time work.. So just be rational ( of course, I don't have any friends....)
Well having been in your position before (getting up, going to work, coming home, going to bed, getting up, going to work, about 60-70 hours per week) and quitting my job because of it, I went to a psychologist who asked me the most important question anyone ever asked me: Did you enjoy the job when you started it? That opened my eyes to the fact that it wasn't the job, it was how I was doing it and I went back to the job. More than likely there might be some things you can put off or change how you do them to give yourself more free time. Maybe you'll have to ask for extensions. Not knowing the ins and outs of your business I can't really make suggestions on changes but hopefully you can look at it from the perspective I did when I was asked the question.
Actually, there are some things. We are hiring another person and that will help immensely. And my new boss is very aware of how overworked I am and she is great at advocating for me. Thanks for the perspective. I will give that more thought.
