An article for young and old to consider and everyone to remember a few things -

  1. A busy person does not have time to be lonely.
  2. Loneliness is a state of mind that you impose on yourself.
  3. Being alone is not the same as being lonely.
  4. A smile, sunny disposition and willingness to engage with others in conversation no matter their or your age goes a long way to creating connection.

For the first point there are people that keep themselves always busy to avoid dealing with their emotions/thoughts... I have family and friends that experienced trauma and keep themselves in a perpetual state of busyness to avoid dealing with the trauma and emotions tied to it... better to cope through emotions/thoughts head on, rather than get into avoidance coping mechanisms.

In many cases yes I agree with you. Loneliness IMO is a self inflicted purgatory.

1 is blatantly untrue one of the greatest causes of loneliness is over work so placing duty over care.
2 is nonsense, you can cause yourself to be alone, loneliness is involuntary
3 is true and thank goodness for it. Being alone is often the only relief from having to continually practice tolerance of the intolerable
4 is living a deluded lie and is the very definition of the religious state of mind

& @Plainjane being "busy" does not have to be at work nor does it have to be alone if shared. @Plainjane it sounds like you need a new employment.

@Plainjane Understood. I think most of us have been there in that position.
