If, you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs. Damn that Kipling, he's in my head again.

Tell this, for example, to Muslims (I suppose you all understand that it is just an example) who cut a sheep's throat in public somewhere in Europe. Should they remain themselves or should they change themselves in order to socialize and integrate into European society? This is the one side of the story.
On the other hand, however, if you are an honest man and society, or government, or whoever makes you lie, of course you should remain yourself and continue to tell truth (white lies do not count in this case).
Every human should evolve during their life; and I suppose it is a vector of evolution that matters and makes sense: from bad to good or vice versa.

P.S.: I apologize for my English (I am Russian living in Russia) and hope you find it understandable.
P.P.S.: I did not mean to cause any harm to any Muslim.

Very good quote as people will evenually find out who you are.

I love this! Staying true to yourself is not easy when everything in your path is inviting you to be someone you don't know.

Indeed, how true, especially since the day that you were born, everyone has been telling you who you are or what you ought to be or how you should conduct yourself. Tis not an easy course to navigate between the between Scylla of conformity and Charybdis of autonomy.
