I'm posting this story, and will be posting any follow-ups in the coming days. NOT because I support or am against the wall.
But so that YOU, THE PEOPLE may finally understand how this is supposed to actually work.
Yes, POTUS has Veto power. But what most people don't get, is that this is NOT "the last word." Congress will likely attempt to conjure up enough votes in the House and Senate for a VETO OVERRIDE.
Whether or not they succeed isn't the issue. What I want so very desperately is for you (REGARDLESS of whatever party you support) to comprehend is that The President is NOT the be-all / end-all God Incarnate, Ultimate Power In The Universe with otherworldly authority to inflict his sole will. On literally anything.
Executive Orders can be overruled in US District (Federal) Court. Many of trump's have already been overturned there. In fact, it happens rather frequently, and has happened in literally every Presidency in our lifetimes.
There is a very good and noble reason why the Presidency (The Executive Branch) is the weakest of the three branches of USA's Governmental Matrix. It is thus, literally so that no one person may, at any time, throw personal influence upon The People in any lasting and meaningful manner.
The US Congress is far and away the most powerful and influential organ in the Body of the United States' government.
As this was a Joint Resolution that trump has vetoed, I'm fairly certain there will at least be an attempt to mount a Veto Override. If there is..... and if it should succeed to override the President's* veto, you will have witnessed the actual proof of how relatively weak is the Office of the President of the United States.
And as well it should be! These Checks and Balances were put in for a reason. To keep us free from tyranny. Our founders lived in a world where singular will of One ruled over All, much to the detriment and degradation of those ruled over.
The Constitution of the United States of America changed all that.
That said, please stop salivating over the coming Presidential Election Cycle and start paying VERY VERY CLOSE ATTENTION to your House of Representatives and US Senate (where applicable) races in your states and districts.
I hear a lot of you from both parties clamor for "term limits." Nope. That's OUR job, Sparky. DEMAND that your party put up a new candidate for consideration in the Primaries. If they won't? Then step up, Sugar, and put some skin in the game and challenge your State Party Leadership and make sure that next time, there IS a new face upon which to vote. Incumbency tends to die fastest in the Primaries within the party. It also tends to die rather quickly in MID-TERM elections. These are two election cycles that YOU GUYS routinely FAIL to show up for!!!!
And you sit and bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch about these ticks getting in for their 16th House gig and 8th Senate gig, just dug into our collective ass, suckin' us dry.
My lovelies, it's because you've been hoodwinked and literally trained since the 1930s to believe that POTUS is literally a temporary Kingship and to basically either ignore Congressional office runs or open mouth-ed-ly flip the lever for the person running from the same party as whoever your POTUS pick is from.
The reality is? Over half of Americans do not have the ability to tell someone what Congressional District they live in without using Google to look it up.
At the State level? It's well over sixty percent of you have no clue which State District you live in.
I'm NOT chastising you for this. This is a true situation because it's BEEN DESIGNED to keep you focused on the weakest links....... so that the money that really owns our government can just keep on slammin' our butts like it's prom night on Viagra. Billions of dollars spent to distract you from the reality that yeah, Congress is stronger than the Bench, which is stronger than POTUS, but the REAL source of power in this great, great nation?
Is YOU.
Yeah, you.
I'll be voting blue across the board regardless of who they put up. I am happy with the direction Democrats are headed. If salivating over voting out Trump gets Democrats to the polls it will effect congressional votes as well. Unfortunately he has been extremely productive in placing people in the judicial branch, and that does have lasting effects on citizens, especially ones who are often marginalized.
