This was the one story that started it all. I was in church one Sunday evening listening to the assistant pastor preach about Job, when I asked myself something like, "We're all just part of a cosmic chess game, aren't we?" I was taken back at first. Figured surely that wasn't right. But the more I questioned and looked into it, the less my faith made sense.
I love the "morality" of Christians who think it is sign of gods love that he makes a bet with the devil over how much torture some silly bastard can take before he gets pissed off.
The bit that really got me was when at the end I asked what about his wife and kids being dead? And was told in all seriousness that it did not matter because god gave him a "better" wife to make up for it!

Agreed! And if we were to hypothetically agree with Job that suffering is good, all kinds of horrendous actions can be done because his god loves suffering.
