"In Spain, the process to exhume the remains of the dictator Francisco Franco from the basilica at the site known as the Valley of the Fallen concluded today. It brought to an end an anomaly that had persisted for 44 years – because in principle, a democracy cannot honour a dictatorship. Until now, Franco had been interred in a mausoleum of gigantic proportions, located in the mountains to the north of Madrid, at an altitude of 1,400 metres and crowned by a 150-metre-high cross that can be seen for miles."

HONOR the message, not the messenger.
It seems to me saying an individual is beyond compare
in thier contribution to society detracts from the ongoing
achievements possible.

What are they doing with the mountain top now ? I hope they put it to good use... looks beautiful !

As I understand it, it will be left otherwise intact as it also houses the remains of 40,000 people who died during the Civil War, on both sides.

Better late...right? But--the same thing's true with Chairman Mao, whose embalmed (downright creepy-looking) remains are honored by hundreds of people every day in Beijing. And Lenin's on display in the Kremlin. (He doesn't look so good, either.)

Nowhere near an ignominious enough fate for someone who brought in the Luftwaffe to bomb his own people and was then feted his whole life for it.

Personally, I feel his remains should also have been pissed on, ground into a fine powder and then dumped at sea so that no trace remained of the fascist cunt. But hey, well done to Spain.
