A NEW BOOK ON CLIMATE SCIENCE

The book: The Rise and Fall of the Carbon Dioxide Theory of Climate Change (2019)

The Author: Dr. Rex J. Fleming is a mathematician with a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from the U. of Michigan. He has over 50 years of experience as a scientist and manager in weather and climate research. He has published peer reviewed scientific papers from 1971 to 2018. He has represented the Unites States of America at several international science meetings, including as the Chief Delegate at the First United States Ocean Climate Delegation to the People’s Republic of China in 1982. He was awarded the Department of Commerce Gold Medal Award (1980) for outstanding achievement in directing the U.S. role in the Global Weather Experiment (FGGE). He was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences (1982) for contributions to atmospheric science. From his retired position as a consultant in the aerospace business he has used his own funds to carry out research on climate issues. He has an important paper on the chaos associated with the large scale instability of the atmosphere and a book on combining the Stochastic Dynamic Equations with the Monte Carlo approach to investigate nonlinear systems in more detail.

HONORS
The Department of Commerce Gold Medal Award (1980) for outstanding achievement in directing U.S. role in Global Weather Experiment (FGGE)
Elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences (1982) for contributions to atmospheric science
Elected as a recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award (2019)

I'm listening to the podcast right now, and I find a lot of the things he is saying to be interesting, although it still seems speculative.

For example, the still unproved idea that there is a connection between the solar magnetic field and the earths albedo is particularly interesting. The proposed mechanism is that cosmic rays seed clouds by ionizing molecules in the earths atmosphere, but they are deflected by a strong magnetic field from the sun.

If this is true, then it means we can regulate our own climate by firing ionized particles into the air with minimal or no need for aerosols. That being said, I don't think that the evidence is the most conclusive. There may be some correlation between these things but I don't think it's enough to fully explain the effects. I would propose as an acid test to those making these claims to design a system capable of accomplishing this.

at 23:30 he claims that we have a 500 year supply of fossil fuels. I can find no evidence to support this whatsoever.

I also can prove that CO2, water vapor, and certain other molecules are opaque to infrared fairly easy, just by filling a bottle with each of these substances, sealing the bottle and then placing them between a heat source and a thermometer. This is a simple experiment anyone can do at home.

Any relation?

None that I know of. It’s very unlikely.

I infer that Dr. Rex J. Fleming is now safely collecting his pension, so he can afford to tell the truth without losing his job. What a world we live in.

Amazon says that this heretical book is "out of print" LOL

FYI: Background on JoNova. No judgement as to her agenda or reasons. That would entail more research (maybe later). Just background for those unfamiliar with JoNova.

JoNova is a blog site started and managed by Joanna Nova: A science presenter, writer, speaker & former TV host; author of The Skeptic's Handbook

(Taken from her blogsite: About) Jo won prizes as a science grad and international awards as a blogger. She’s author of The Skeptics Handbook which has been translated into 15 languages. Each day 5,000 people read joannenova.com.au. In 2018 Jo toured Europe speaking about How to Destroy an Electricity Grid. Before blogging she hosted a children’s TV series on Channel Nine, was a regular keynote speaker, and managed the Shell Questacon Science Circus. She was an associate lecturer in Science Communication at ANU. At one time she helped fundraise for The Australian Greens. Then she grew up.

Sept 13th, 2013
She has presented speeches across Australia, in New York, Washington, Munich, Oslo and London.

A prize-winning science graduate in molecular biology. She has given keynotes about the medical revolution, gene technology and aging at conferences. She hosted a children’s TV series on Channel Nine, and has done over 200 radio interviews, many on the Australian ABC. She was formerly an associate lecturer in Science Communication at the ANU.

She is married to Dr David Evans, the Stanford PhD in fourier analysis, former leading carbon modeler for the Australian Greenhouse Office. They support their own research and writing.

Thanks for the reference. Will investigate.

The book is unavailable on kindle Here’s an article by Fleming on the subject. It’s mostly over my head, but I understand the summary.
