I had an interesting conversation today. So, someone I care about told me I just needed to accept that I was blessed and god was helping me with something. I politely said "Yes mam." and the conversation was over. Does belief in god just make you naturally condescending. She knows I am atheist. She knows I am very well versed in her religion. I can't imagine how offended she would be if I said that there is no god and things don't happen for a reason. Why do I have to be the adult?
I get this at work everyday. It goes in one ear and out the other. Sometimes that garbage doesn’t reach my ear, I have mastered selective deafness. This year has extra jesus for some reason, maybe the fear of so many people walking away from the church. I’m usually that person who don’t respond but this Christmas is going to be clap back season. An unabashed atheist.
I just think of it as extremism. If you took any label, besides a religious one, the situation would still be annoying. Thinking about it from that perspective also helped me learn to not push my beliefs on anyone.
Nobody out and about needs to know my beliefs or lack of, just like I don't need to know theirs. I mostly just skate by on people assuming I'm spiritual. I'll pretty much do whatever it takes to avoid a religious topic. Lol
Why were you so polite? Did you fear making them angry?
Good way to end it. She already knows how you feel and a challenge would be fruitless.
While I agree it is frustrating to have someone attempt to impose their belief on you, in a case like this, it seems like a non issue.
