Does anyone who was raised Christian still enjoy the music? Sitting on the bus listening to Pentatonix sing Hallelujah. I still find peace in it. You?
I like polyphony... the simplicity and purity human voices woven into complexity ... mostly written for the church, but some secular pieces
Some Christmas music is nice. My mother was the church organist, so I appreciate good organ music.
I quit Catholicism in college and liked Ethel Smith’s organ playing (Three Oclock In The Morning, etc). A Baptist rooomie told me such music was heresy. My collection includes Saint Saens’ Organ Symphony and more.
Whoops, make that “I escaped C’cism....” I’m an apostate, a runaway slave. Do nuns, etc, still talk of apostasy? They did when I was a kid.
I prefer: k. d. lang singing Cohen and I was never xian since age 5 but sang all the songs when forced to attend my sister wedding church
Ha-ha -I was raised Episcopalian, went to music college, got my Master's degree in music, and ended up being a church music director and organist for almost 40 years! I love the sound of well-written sacred music -Bach, Benjamin Britten, Handel, etc. Some of the best music was written for use in churches... some of the absolute worst, too! I've been an agnostic since the age of 5. The music stands as valid and well-written, and I can appreciate the sentiment, just not the belief part. Hope that doesn't sound weird.
