Okay, everyone: MASH the T.V show....or MASH the movie, which do you prefer? On the one hand, Robert Altmans skillful, episodic direction made the setting very realistic. I liked the more adult version of Radar as a different take to the "gee golly goshums" version in the show and they managed to expand on the character of Burns more than the show.
On the other hand.....Alan goddamn Alda rules all time and space and everything in between. Much as I like Donald Sutherland, his Groucho Marx-like character just seemed to fit in with the madness. And the episode where they're all having nightmares gave ME nightmares, so I think it did a better job showing the psychological effect of war. And, once again, Alan goddamn Alda rules all time and space and everything in between.
I also have to pick the show because my good friend Lawrason Driscoll was in one of the episodes. Wonderful man and I miss him (RIP.)
MASH the TV show -- but only until Larry Linville left. His Frank Burns was the perfect foil.
Yeah, but I could listen to David Ogden Stiers' voice all day.....and I also liked that he was a good foil for them while actually building on his character. Larry Linville had amazing comic timing, though.
@JayOleck38 I know Stiers was a great actor, but I never really connected with Winchester the character.
Loved the movie. Liked the show very much.
I grew up with reruns of MASH. Mom has a crush on Alan Alda.
