Found on Prime, I watched "Them That Follow", story of a West Virginia community bound together as a congregation with a snake-handling gospel preacher.

Looking closely at a culture that has always fascinated me, this little movie hands over both great acting and filming to support the story of reality smacking up against blind religious devotion.

Worth seeing as a great drama, and in contemplation of how some folks structure life decisions based on myopic "faith".

You might enjoy reading "Salvation on Sand Mountain" by Dennis Covington, about a reporter who went to visit a snake handling church in a converted gas station in the south. It's a great read!

Personally, I have a sneaky, quiet sense of satisfaction every time one of those religious snake-handlers is bit and then dies.

I just think... The Lawd must have wanted them REAL BAD!

No, just lack of repentance.

I watched a PBS documentary on a Virginia Snake Handler sect and in the closing credits it stated that the leader of the sect had been bitten and died and the church was taken over by his son. A year later his son was bitten and died ...those who don't learn from stupidity are doomed to repeat it.

Is it a documentary?

no, suspense/drama

I'll watch tomorrow night. Seems like a sect that may lose a member or two every now and then due to snake bite.
