With reference to "god's plan" and why god would do (or not do) certain things, or allow (or not allow) certain things, I've often heard this idea: that the mind of god is beyond our comprehension, that human logic doesn't apply to god, that as humans we just have to trust that god is doing what's best for us. Understanding is not required: only obedience.

Even when I was something of a believer, I remember being somewhat uncomfortable with this. Now, I call it what it is: a cop-out. An avoidance tactic. Why exactly are we humans not allowed to understand the creator's actions?

Which brings up the question: where does logic come from? For some believers the existence of logic is an indication of a creator -- it somehow exists independently of the mind. But if that is true, why would the actions of a creator not be logical? Why would it be impossible for us to understand the logic in all the pain and death that takes place?

In naturalistic terms, we can indeed grasp it. Life is both wonderful and terrible. Life can be dangerous, exciting, boring, difficult. There is joy, there is pain. There is life, there is death. We can find proximate purpose, even if we can't find ultimate purpose.

The true horror would come from the belief that it was purposely set up this way for us by a loving creator.

I was Christian for 30 years and I now believe all the trust in god stuff was just a ruse for the elite to gain power over the peasants. It conditions you to believe that you must suffer and have hard times. The more you suffer and the harder times you have the more holier you are. Plus render imunto Caesar what is caesars and unto god what is gods.

These idea teach people to expect hard times and suffering and allows the rulers to easily control and manipulate. It’s much easier to say you’re going to hell for this or this is God’s will in your life than to actually have to use brute force to make people do things

Who needs a plan when you’re omnipotent!

I don’t!😇

Religion was created by humans, and the gods they worship were created by religious leaders. Humans damn well understand the gods they worship.

You're correct, it is nothing but a cop out. They are putting forth empty phrases in an attempt to sound "wise". Their "logic" works better if you're 10 to 12 years old instead of an adult. That's why as an adult people are less inclined to be convinced by such simplistic responses.

It's the same logic that says that Santa touches the side of his nose to go up the chimney. How does he do it? He touches the side of his nose and magic! But how does the magic work? [silence]

god will never show up. It simply does not exist. Come out of your squirrel hole now.

People who cannot give evidence (much less proof) that their sky daddy exists find it convenient to explain that away with a declaration that we are too lowly to understand holy intentions. In doing so they are, at least to us, so damned transparent, unlike their claimed deity.

Dude, logic is a science thus far from religion as can be, you call it " a cop out" I call religion what it exactly is: bullshit.

Of course it's a cop-out. It's absolutely impossible to get away from using human logic. Also, the argument presupposes the existence of God. It's a dodge. Human minds often grab onto rationalizations like this when they are trying to justify what they believe.

At the basis for religion there is usually a definition of God, which always contradicts itself. I do no like these "God's Plan" reasons or the we are not smart enough to know how it works. "A long time ago no one knew what happened, so they made a bunch of stuff up" Unknown Author

Face it, they have written copies of his ineffable plan. What can you expect?
