Pete Buttigieg may win Iowa and it is impressive but he will fizzle out by South Carolina [cnn.com]
IMHO, it is clear that Bernie, Biden and Buttigieg will be "also ran horses" of the race. Warren is the only one who seems to have the sustaining power with real connection to voters, persistent messaging and no hype. She rose from hard work, not through money or hype.
Regardless of politics EW is a weak candidate for the same reason HRC was. Shes a woman. HRC knows it was a big factor in her defeat. And theres no reason to think things have changed.
You think HRC lost not because of incompetence by just for being a woman? That is being very kind to HRC and ignoring a lot of other facts.
@St-Sinner theres no single reason HRC lost, but theres lots of evidence sexism was a big factor, particularly the ultra low over all turn out... and statistically that was key to DT being able yo take the EC
I like Warren but I am afraid she may not be electable. She has some egg on her face from when she had to admit in a debate that after all this time she still didn't have a plan for paying for Medicare for All. She finally came up with a plan after another week or so which Biden called "economic gymnastics" and it kinda is. She has to get funding from about 8 different sources. Everything would have to go just right, and it is not likely that our do-nothing Congress would co-operate with her funding ideas, anyway. But, the worst part is that she didn't even come up with a plan until she was publicly embarrassed and forced to. She also has egg on her face from touting her Native American heritage for years. The DNA test showed she was only 1/32 to 1/64 Native American at best. My step-children have more Native American heritage than than and they have never considered portraying themselves as Native American. That may be a small issue, but it goes to trust. If you are going to portray yourself as the anti-corruption candidate, you can't have trust issues.
The fact is that even Democrats in general are not too excited about the large field. Water water everywhere, not a single drop to drink. But don't we have to pick who is the best in the lot?
@St-Sinner Yes...if we can ever agree on whom the best is. That didn't seem to work out too well last time for either party.
No one is beating Trump
First I got angry but then I realized that I must agree with you based on the facts on the ground.... lol
Bernie has been consistent and steady for many many years. His message doesnt change. I like that. Everything the rest is hanging their hat on is Bernie. He would have beat Trump if not for the dirty DNC. IMO.
Yes, I attended local and district dem meetings. Those of us who were Bernie supporters faced a new attempt at rigging almost every month. I was removed from being precinct chair for complaining about coin flipping training along with another chair. We got a nudge nudge from state chair's assistant basically telling us that rules require us to flip a coin but it also says that precinct chair gets to decide who wins and even if the the coin is even looked at. We were basically told to go with the national party's choice. The first rigging attempt was thwarted early. They were going to allow voting by smart phone thinking that younger voters would turn out in high numbers using cell phones and older voters who tend to vote establishment would vote by mail or in person. They quietly inserted into rules that there would be a cap of 10% of the vote by phones counted. They did not think that we were paying attention. The final software did not work at our last training session and our pointing out the rigging is probably what delayed it from working properly on caucus night.
Not my first choice, but if she wins the nomination I will vote for her.
I'll go for moderate left this time around, which generally means either Pete or Amy. Sanders and Warren, who would have been my choices early on, have gone a bit too far left for me. Whatever the case, when it comes down to it, it's whatever gets Trump out. That's priority #1.
OMG, even Hillary? How about Al Gore? lol
@St-Sinner Well, neither are on the docket, and for good reason. I didn't think I'd need to amend my statement to read, "...of the current crop of hopefuls," but if that helps you out, consider it so.
My fear is that someone who has a plan for everything may not have a plan for anything. It begins to look like a new car salesman. Just saying.
I'll certainly vote for her if she is the nominee. But I just know Biden can win the rusbucket states and that is where the election will be won or lost. That's just a an inconvenient fact. And while he may not be the "best" Democrat, ANY Democrat who can win is better than President TURDUS.
I like your statement. Ha.. ha.. Correct. Someone who has a plan for everything is probably not a doer but just over reliant on advisers.
My fear is that someone who has a plan for everything may not have a plan for anything. <---- are you from a different political century?
@MarkiusMahamius I like her plans just fine. About 90% of them have 0% chance of being enacted into law. That is the way this country works. I want steak and eggs for breakfast every morning and I want Jim Haslam to pay for them. Is it ever going to happen? Duh. No.
@Writerman13 I'm just wondering if you've lived in a world where empty promises and speculative idealism wesnt how politics worked. It doeant seem like a valid criticism of any one candidate, since they all do it.
I will vote Democrat on election day regardless of the candidate.
thank you
People who vote for the party instead of the candidate are one of the reasons our government is such a mess. Don't be tribal. There are good and bad on both sides.
Warren 2020.
You mean the one that claimed she was Native American so she could get into college?
You mean the one that claimed she sent her kids to public schools, but had to retract.
You mean the one that wants open borders so our country will be flooded with cheap labor and wages will go down?
You mean the one that wants taxpayers to pay for medical care for criminals that sneak across our borders, but won't pay for disabled Veterans?
You mean the one that wants taxpayers to fund murdering babies?
There is good and bad in all candidates. I can support her position on free college. It is an investment in our future.
The healthcare system needs a major overhaul and universal care is long overdue.
@Boxdoc Well, whoever wins the Democratic primary will be better than the current Fake President.
@St-Sinner And relatively speaking, any Democratic candidate will be a great improvement over the fool that currently inhabits the White House.
@BestWithoutGods I am thinking you are a core base Democrat and you will only vote by the party line. I personally think that Hillary would have been a terrible president. I like to be a moderate and be able to pick the good on both sides.
@St-Sinner Mrs. Clinton would have been many times a better president than Mr. Tr%mp.
@St-Sinner And speaking of a "terrible president," look at the current inhabitant of the White House. He denies science, and is determined to keep polluting our environment and driving life on Earth toward extinction. He is a compulsive liar, and can't be trusted to tell the truth. He has broken the law several times. He has been an unfaithful husband. He is so uneducated that he can't even speak coherently. He is an international embarrassment. In short, he is a truly TERRIBLE president.
@BestWithoutGods Do you know who and why the candidate lost in 2016? Because people did not agree with you.
@St-Sinner Clinton won the popular vote. It is only the electoral college that allowed the minority to elect the foolish, criminal liar.
@BestWithoutGods You are ignoring the clear message from the voters. They were not looking for a priest or a paragon of virtues. We have had enough of good but non-doers. We want someone who can shake the system. Not a single president has done more to stop illegal immigration after promising and talking about it for the last 40 years. Not One. No president kept his word of moving the embassy to Jerusalem after promising in every campaign. No One. It was only Trump. We do not want a nice guy. We want a doer.
@BestWithoutGods There you go again. What is the rule of winning the presidency?
@St-Sinner As I said, Mrs. Clinton won the popular vote. That is the "clear message from the voters." I understand that the Republicans want to whittle down the government to the point that they can drown it in a bathtub. I think, rather, that we need to improve the government. Tr%mp's immigration policy has been to split up families, incarcerate innocent children, build a stupid wall, etc. Mrs. Clinton would have been a much better president.
