Is propaganda replacing religion?
It seems as people leave the religion of their youth, some tend to replace it with something else to believe in. With a religion, there is a “group” feel, and sometimes an “us against them” kind of attitude, similar to sports teams and political parties. Maybe that feeling is addictive?
Lately, it seems to me that some people, looking for something to believe in, are falling for propaganda, and other myth-information on a variety of controversial political and social issues.
I’ve been wondering if maybe it is partly to replicate the “us against them” feeling and surround themselves with the camaraderie of like minded folks?

Yes, but instead of calling it addiction I would just call it human nature to need an identity, and an identity group. Our sense of self is closely linked to our worldview. If we don’t have a worldview made of reason and discipline, we will have one that is made haphazardly, but we will have a worldview, and we will experience it as sacred.

It’s tribal, few people want to disenfranchise themselves from a collective, hence the growth of differing subcultures over the last 50 years or so.
