Has anyone heard of "Global Comments"? [globalcomment.com]
Just received a thoughtful piece by them and it covered what I have been saying for years: "Why climate change is an irrelevance, economic growth is a myth and sustainability is forty years too late." There is a heavy UK and Australian perspective. For me it is worth checking out.
I think sorting through the facts is important, sadly people have very busy lives and getting the facts may not be their highest priority. Entertainment seems to be much higher on the list than actual fact based news
Even fox has their Chris Wallace and Judge Napolitano, what percentage of viewers tune in for their segments vs. hannity or carlson?
Of course and that is a major problem. It is especially so when the messages are not to our liking or comfort. I guess I have a higher pain threshold for these kinds of things.
@JackPedigo I guess I just do not understand not wanting the facts, painful or not, facts are so important!
@silverotter11 I'm with you but most people are like the famous expression from the movie "A Few Good Men". "They can't handle the truth"> Unfortunately, the truth is getting more dismal every day.

It's okay, millions will die before the world actually does something substantive about climate change. Kind of killing two birds with one stone.
. . . sure, there aren't enough opportunities for fake news
Is that based on knowledge or just an opinion??
@JackPedigo based on cynicism
@FearlessFly I looked at it and downloaded/printed a report that was totally credible. Cynicism is one thing but one should still look into the thing one is cynic about. Unfortunately, too many think all news is fake news.
@JackPedigo I found no info about globalcomments that would lead me to think it should be assigned veracity/credibility. Until I find a better "yardstick", I continue to advocate this browser extension : [newsguardtech.com]
I'm not claiming it is perfect, but I think it is a fairly good judge of 9 chosen journalistic critera (all media is biased).
@JackPedigo "totally credible" ? "it covered what I have been saying for years"
In terms of critical thinking, that sounds very suspiciously like this fallacy :
@JackPedigo I took the article as an opinion piece. Overpopulation is a simplistic answer. Let's say the population had stayed at 2.5 billion. It wouldn't have stopped plastics in the oceans. It wouldn't have stopped climate change. It just would have taken longer to reach the point at which we find ourselves now.
@FearlessFly Thank you for the link I have added it to my list of important links. I agree, trust but verify. However, the group I mentioned is new and I looked at some of the links. Mainly, it is about environmental concerns and a lot of stuff from scientists. Often it takes a while before new sites can be checked.
@FearlessFly, @bingst The article was an extension of a previous "opinion" piece (yes) from a transitions group from Milwaukee. I have linked the transitions piece many times here. I was on a local transitions team's steering committee for a couple of years but fell out as they simply mouthed things that made them feel good. Aside from talking and holding workshops I felt the group little little on a personal level. My 25+ years activities in the field of environmentalism/population/history demographics gave the strong idea that the article was spot on. People don't like this, as was stated, and seek to ignore the message. Another book that came out a couple of years ago basically said the same thing ("Over-development, overpopulation and overshoot) [populationspeakout.org]
is both beautiful and horrible to look at. A NetFlix video "Terra" is a must see video. We are in serious danger and scientists and the media have sounded the alarm. Burying our heads in the sand will only damage future generations.
@JackPedigo What about my assertions that population control in and of itself would not have averted these problems?
@bingst Sorry, totally disagree. Again, I have studied this issue long and hard. Most people only have opinions which have little to do with actual knowledge. There will be no more comments from me on this subject.
