If you are a fruit lover, let me give you an idea for a great treat. I make my own chunky apple sauce, uwing just 7 ingredients: apples (any kind will do -- I use MacIntosh), a sweetener (as a diabetic, I use NutraSweet but sugar will work), cinnamon, lemon juice, butter or a butter alternative, water and a little salt, I simply peep and core 10 to 14 medium sized apples, then cut them into small chunks.
I add lemon juice (1 and 1/2 teaspoons per 3 to 4 apples, cinnamon liberally to taste, several shapes of salt, cup or so of water, and 3 or 4 tablespoons of butter alternative (I use Smart Balance4). Mix thoroughly in a ccoking pot and cook over medium neat. Stir the mixture frequently. Once the water begins to boil, turn down the heart to a high simmer. As the apples begin to soften, keep turning the mixture frequently until most of the apple bits have turned to a soft mush and the remaining chunks have begun to soften.
Then take the pot off the burner and mush the cooked mixture with a potato masher. It is then ready to eat. You can determine the ratio of ingredients to your taste.
To make the apple sauce superbly delicious, I add small chunks of pineapple from my garden. If you will try it, You will like it.
“I add small chunks of pineapple from my garden” If you grow pineapple, you must have to purchase apples..?
Also, do you pour off the water used to boil, or allow it to ..thin out the applesauce?
Yes, I do have to purchase apples. Leave what water that remains in the mixture. By the way, if you add the pineapple hunks, do it after you take the apple sauce off the burner, raw.
