**Is Artificial Intelligence Magic?

You forgot to mention , A1 seems to have better English skills , thn about half the American population .
True enough xians fail 4th grade ENGLISH but DAMN SPELCHEK ON MY PHONE IS 100% incompetent
Magic is not a good word to use IMO because that word suggests something supernatural, with no explanation. We know that AI is created by humans who understand exactly what they are doing.
AI is child’s play in comparison with human conscious awareness. If we are going to start labeling things as magical we should say that conscious awareness is magical. To assign such a label wouldn’t help matters—consciousness is profoundly mysterious and may never be understood but it is a natural phenomenon.
Driverless cars are dangerous but never magic
It's questionable whether anything we have at this point is accurately labeled "artificial intelligence". Most of it is just a species of machine learning. Throw enough computing resources and a big enough set of training data at it and it can seem like it's got a low grade species of intelligence, but the truth is that it only works in constrained circumstances. Tesla keeps promising "full self driving" upgrades and keeps not delivering for exactly this reason. The current technology is not good enough for Tesla to accept the liability involved in telling drivers they can ignore the road, and to build cars without steering wheels. It's good enough to aim the car down the freeway in reasonably good weather, and to navigate main arteries in well-mapped areas, but always with the disclaimer that the driver must be available at a moment's notice to take over from the car.
As to whether it's magic ... not strictly speaking, but sure, it can seem "magical".
