(LINK) Charles Blow:

"This is the new America, one in which all the old rules have been wiped away, one in which corruption is tolerated, one in which truth is denigrated, one in which tyrants are venerated."

"What has happened in America under Trump is a tectonic shift that is generating an unthinkable realignment. Trump has poked and prodded the limits of acceptability, and he has found them to be not fixed, but flexible.

"He has continuously stretched the range of acceptable behavior. In fact, a post-impeachment Trump, punished but still in power, is likely to be even more emboldened and unbound."

"Trump and his administration have so overwhelmed the country with successive outrages that it all begins to flatten out, to smooth out, to become a kind of toxic new normal."

"Trump is leaving an indelible mark on this country, regardless of what happens in November. He has shattered convention and protocol, and they can’t be repaired. Trump will leave in his wake a weaker country — with his sensibilities seared into it."

Trump’s Lasting Legacy
America has changed under this president.

The issue is not how bad the enemy is. The issue is what our generals are doing, why they are so meek and toothless? Why are we taking a beating from bad guys for years? Why are bad guys winning?

Now that is the true question here.

My theory is that for establishment democrats, Trump is great for fundraising. He's also a useful distraction. They can use the outrage that Trump creates to rile the base while avoiding attempts to solve real world issues that progressives are always going on about like healthcare, homelessness, and ending the wars. They can appear to be resisting him by putting on this impeachment show while mostly caving to his demands on the issues which is agreeable for them because they really arne't that much different from him.

@RoboGraham
Trump's base is going to be riled up. Trump is going to win in 2020. He is going to change what and who we are domestically and internationally. But don't forget that will also galvanize the progressives. We have always bounced back. The Bernie and his types should start a movement and he should be a king maker, not a candidate. He looks like a good man to start a think tank.

@St-Sinner who do you suggest he make King?

@RoboGraham
Trump as a king? If we don't get our ass together, Republicans will win both houses with a good majority and laws can change to 4 terms. With his style he will rule like a king.

@St-Sinner yeah that must never happen. You said Bernie should be king maker, who did you have in mind?

@RoboGraham
None of the candidates running now. He should pick, groom and promote more like AOC across the nation. More non-whites and diverse the better.

@St-Sinner Stacy Abrams perhaps?

@RoboGraham
For Senate, congress, governor? yes, for president, no.
I think she can be a great DNC president too.

European colonialism , French Revolution, Hitler, Khmer Rouge, America’s Middle East. These are all precedents that inform and seem to be playing out in America today.

It doesn’t look as though it will end well .

A once great country going to the dogs because of one bumbling, paranoid, narcissistic buffoon.

May be time to get out if you can

Unfortunately, the problem is much more extensive than that one buffoon. Is it difficult to immigrate to Australia?

@RoboGraham
We have to stand our ground. This land is worth fighting for. It is not a 3rd world, hopeless country. We will win. Progressives have always won in the long run. Conservatives have in the short terms. They killed scientists for speaking the truth centuries ago but who the history awarded the victory? To the truth, to progressives and to science. Conservatives when under threat for existence, always fight like the back against the wall. This will keep happening. But I believe we have motivated people and movements on our side. The signs are encouraging.

@St-Sinner you got that right. There are ups and downs but over all things mive toward progress. The fact that someone who calls himself a democratic socialist is a contender for the presidency is very encouraging.

@RoboGraham

It is a long view, generations will be lost to Conservatives stopping progress but progressives have won the ideological war over time in the history. The Earth is not flat any more but they killed people said it was not.
