At last I'm a grandfather! At 74, it's been a while coming, but great news just the same. (Granddaughter Adeline 'Addie'.
My oldest daughter made me a grandfather at 36; her mother was 41. When SHE was 36, she tried to tease her mother about becoming a great-grandmother at at 61. My darlin' PeggyLou gently pointed out to her the fact that she(our daughter) was a grandmother at 36. THAT was fun.
And now my oldest granddaughter has had twins, when she previously had two. Perfect square. Hoping for her sake that she is done with this shit.
I'm 57 and I joke with my boys that I'm TRYING to stay alive long enough to be a grandma. But, they are both ambitiously "following their bliss" as Joseph Campbell said. And I'm thrilled for them. They know I'm teasing. I hate to hear people trying to guilt trip their children to have children. It's their lives, not mine.
