I’ve seen that before but I’ve always loved it. I remember when I was in basic we had a girl who told her dad how hard it was so her dad call our CO to complain about the treatment. Our entire division got our asses whooped!

Thank you very much for your service.
I am a disabled retired Viet-Nam ERA veteran. I was in the Army Security Agency (military intelligence) and my term was a joke. Here is our patch [mstecker.com] and the story that goes with it: Yellow is for the streak down our backs and black is for the night we fear. Red is for the blood we shed which is why there is no blood. We called ourselves: "lightening flash chicken pluckers"

@Melbates I didn't give my service willingly. There was a draft and I enlisted to stay away from Nam. I'm not sorry even though there was a lot of pain. It got me where I am today and I am the one who is grateful. People have said I should write a book of my experiences in the military. They were unbelievable in a hilarious way.
@HippieChick58 You're kidding? What was your MOS? Mine was 33D30 (high freq. intercept recorder maintenance).

I was an 05H20. Morse code intercept operator, AKA dittybop. I was at FS Okinawa, I was in the 409th ASA company at FS Augsburg, and NSA at Ft. Meade. I trained at Ft. Devens, MA.
@HippieChick58 No I don't think so (I served from 1967-1971). The managing partner from my accounting firm was also a ditty bopper. I am so glad I dodged that bullet. I also trained at Ft. Devens, Then Sinop Turkey. From there a short stint at Ft. Meade, Vint Hill Farms, VA and finally Reynolds Army Hospital Ft. Sill Ok. Small world!
I spent 6 years active duty and another 12 married to a service member.

I was a UNWILLING participant (ie. draftee) during '66 and have such contempt for those my age that avoided the draft but speak in favor of the military now.

@nevermind345 my sincerest gratitude for your service. My brother served in the Marines. I've always been proud of our military.
I served at the end of the Viet Nam conflict, we were advised at our incoming briefing to not be seen off base wearing a military uniform due to the negative opinion that people had of the military. I'm happy that people now think better of the military now but that just wasn't my experience and I remain skeptical of the people that are now patriots.

I remember that period of time very well, and I absolutely agree with you.
It's like the pendulum has swung back to the opposite extreme. Instead of demonizing the military, like what was done, now the military is being lionized, which is almost just as bad. A lot of the people who are in power now are some of the same ones who called you and others "baby killers". A lot of them never served, i.e. Captain Bone Spurs. I come from a military family. It irks me that those who talk a good game about how important our military is, are the same ones who cut funding from the VA, and stand in the way of necessary changes in how our veterans are treated AFTER their service. Thank you for yours.
Are you talking about Bone Spurs related draft dodging liars who show the utmost contempt for any one who has ever served for his country. A comment such as this might be given to the Republican Party whom is composed of the other half of 45's Army of malingers who make it their foremost Congressional responsibility to ensure that when your tour of service was completed that you were left on the street without a place to live or a job and enough money to go and purchase a handgun so you could end your torment for having served. More veterans were lost to combat related illnesses after the Viet Nam War that the actual KIA's which is why I make this statement and I can assure that you have also witnessed in your lifetime.
