Does anyone else have moral objections to the US assassinating people? (Yes, I am American.)

Absolutely, government sanctioned murder is still murder.

This General Trump killed has been at this for decades. The timing is suspect and should have been considered. The reaction if the shoe is reversed is obvious.
So, I can't condone this. Hundred of thousands will now die.
About six years ago, I felt people were hungry for blood. Well, here they go again.
Get your sons and daughters lined up to ruin their lives then be told there are not enough doctors at the VA.
Or, its gonna take six months to get your claim settled. There will be no such thing as a three year enlistment. There is talk about restarting the draft.
We didn't learn a goddamn thing! (sorry, I'm in a bad mood) I need a hug!!!

Yes, and went ‘so far’ as to call it Murder. When our Generals are called upon to assemble a plan of attack, should such planning make them targets for assassination by a potential adversary?

Our small president set this in motion, unnecessarily increased the tension, then struck first. This is what he wanted, not what was right.

It’s been a political mechanism for millennia. Why would it stop now?

Morality and ethics seem irrelevant in our current global, political climate.

That shouldn't prevent us from acting in an ethical manner.

@MizJ but it will! That is the reality.

@MizJ individually you can act ethically but collectively is a totally different dynamic.

In some cases I would probably have no problem with it, especially if it meant saving the lives of innocents who are always the biggest losers in war.

Where's the line?

@MizJ Hell if I know. One of the struggles of mankind is the only absolute is if you are born, you will die. The rest of this is all made up by us. It always has been, and will be until we are no longer here as a species. Morality is not a fixed thing.

@Sticks48 I suggest that the line be decided in a courtroom such as the Nurenberg trials after WWII

There's only one world leader I'd like to see assassinated, and I'll bet you can figure out which one I'm thinking about.

This is supposedly forbidden as it applies to national leaders (too bad another bad republican, "W" also ignored laws, but sometimes it is necessary as when Bin Laden was killed.

There is a concept called the Rule of Law and I am sickened by our supposed leaders ignoring it.

@MizJ What happened to our being a nation of laws??

Feels like Trump is 'wagging the dog'.

A democratic legislator was interview on NPR this morning and he said this will cost more lives as Iran has vowed to retaliate. The usual crap from tRump about thousands of Americans killed because of this general is more evidence of self-serving lies. Dictatorship for dummies 101, create an emergency in case of pressure from outside. "W" pulled and look where that got us!!!

1

Yes unless it's a monster like Bin Laden

Where does one draw the line? Who decides? Our justice system (theoretically) includes a fair trial, in this case it did not.

@MizJ that's the problem

@bobwjr And the basis for my moral objection

6

Yes...not to mention that the retaliation that will come will be targeted at Americans and their allies. I have no doubt this will escalate into something horrendous and deadly. Can you imagine the reaction in America if say...Mike Pompeo was assassinated by the Iranians when he was leaving Dulles Airport in Washington?

Some cheering and suggest trump next

It's a tough question. I'm generally an isolationist but I know what our reaction would be to someone sending a drone to the U.S. and taking out a General. Terrorism changes the normal rules of engagement. I'm guessing that although we claim that the guy was planning many acts, I bet we can't prove that. So generally I'm against us just going in and taking out people we don't like, without a just cause. Especially when it could start a war.

Just like they claimed there was proof of WMD years ago. I'm sensing horseshit.

@MizJ definitely smell of equine manure
