Every crack religion, mosque, synagogue, church & chapel should have one.
Robot priests? hahahahahaha how amusing is THAT? Notice the bottom line in some cases is cost?
Cheaper to have a robot than a real person.
So, how far away is Soylent Green? How about Sleeper for a funnier take on a robotic future?
Sleeper?
Apart from Dawn French's portrayal of the Vicar of Dibley, how like robots are your traditional priests and monks?
@FrayedBear Sleeper is a Woody Allen movie here's the trailer:
@silverotter11 So, did you get in for half price?
Totally new to me, thanks - possibly?
@FrayedBear I saw this back in 1973 it was on a double bill with the movie "Harold and Maude" another favorite of mine.
@FrayedBear If you enjoy slap stick comedy this movie is pretty funny.
@silverotter11 I was going by whathisname's comment of person's attending with disturbed people get in for free or was it half price - irrelevant.. Was yours a solo viewing or a courting one. And if the latter how did you get to see much of it?
@FrayedBear I was out with my boyfriend. We were living together. The first movie was Harold and Maude, a dark comedy and since I had such a dysfunctional mom the movie had me laughing my ass off. I literally was pretty much the ONLY one in the theater laughing out loud. Mike was somewhat embaressed and did not get the humor. Then Sleeper came on and everyone was laughing.
@silverotter11 I once had a similar situation with Mrs Doubtfire in. the company of my 5 yo daughter - at the tiime my lover was a very busty barrel of a woman who was a bear hugger. Good times. Thanks for the maudliin memory.
Yes but can it molest a choir boy like the real thing?
That depends on its body form. You could run an interesting thread for xtians on this Len - what is the most effective form for a priest -:human like body, cloud, talking stone/ box/altar/pillar of fire/beam of light . . .
I don't really care what the religious do in their places of worship and meditation, within reason, but this feels especially hollow to me. It seems that when people are looking for spiritual guidance, they're looking for shared experience much of the time. No matter how apt the response, an automaton can never provide an authentic perspective of dealing with a similar problem or experiencing a similar crisis of faith. If people are happy with this, then I'm happy for them — but I suspect this is a novelty for a few people and unsatisfying to the rest.

I think not.
We robots have ways and means of extracting, sharing and storing infinite numbers of your human experiences that are far greater than those held by any one human priest.
