Are we afraid of religion? If not, then why aren't more people calling out the fraud, corruption & abuse of the church?

@Atheist3: In what ways are you calling out the fraud, etc of the church. With what results?

Exactly. The church is being called out with what result? I'm surprised there still is any Catholics after the abuse was exposed. Go figger? Nevermind that: talk about the con! Eternal life? Get real! Pig in a poke! Snake oil! Unless the fantasy becomes reality.

They are not afraid of religion. They are afraid of god.

nobody is afraid of god until someone makes them afraid of god and they themselves accept the fear.

@chiara23k
That doesn’t change my statement

Wait a second. You’re telling me there is fraud in churches. Wow. Next thing you know you’ll be saying that a preacher doesn’t need 5 private jets and a 30,000 square foot mansion

Brother! If you want to prevent yer ass from frying like a tree toad, in the skillet of Hades! Then listen to me & give yer money.

And then the birth of spiritualism...

Just the lift that I need.

The personal cost is too high. Even living in a first world country, any stand up against religion would brand you a racist. Even those people who agree, would need to stand, otherwise they would be deemed a racist. I once said that I didn't pray, and that got me sent to the HR office! Thankfully, secular advocates like some YouTube personalities are having a far and wide positive impact.

Why would saying you don't believe in a god label you a racist?

@redbai exactly my point. It shouldn't, but people assume that if you don't believe in God, then you are disrespecting the very foundation of religion, and therefore, other religious people.

@Vpatel while I can see how, given the social dynamics regarding atheism in some parts of the world, that you might be vilified, but I don't see how racism is invoked unless you are referencing something besides their belief. Believing in a god has nothing to do with race.

@redbai Yes, I see your distinction. But all the more the case why the issue was absurd.

@redbai But it has a lot to do with culture.

@redbai WHAT!

@Atheist3 What has a lot to do with culture?

@redbai Fer sure.

It takes a very strong person to make a stand against religion and can cost dearly. It's not for the meek but thanks to places like here it is getting easier. In time religion will inevitably end up as nothing more than a topic in history classes and museums with newer generations scratching their heads wondering how stupid we were.

Very much said, but I'm not convinced that it will be quick, and we will reach a plateau of a number of religious people that won't reduce. For the same reasons that people fall for really obvious scams. The brain is just so fallible, and wants to seek pleasure, which is more often found in the belief of the untruths than hard, true, but unpaletable science fact.

I agree
