Last night on PBS David Brooks commented that he knew trump was guilty and felt he should be removed from office. That said, he is glad that he will be acquitted by the Senate. He feels that with the public as strongly evenly divided in their feelings toward trump and the elections less than a year away it wouldn't be healthy for our society to have him removed.
Is civil disobedience or worse civil war a possible outcome if trump loses or refuses to leave if he loses the election? I've been to many countries that have experienced civil war and even been an unwilling participant in Vietnam's civil war. It happens all over the world including the US 160 years ago, Was this chaos Putin's ultimate goal?
Speculation like this seems pointless to me. First he needs to lose the election. That needs to be the it concern at this point. The rest is hyperbole. There's no benefit in worrying about it right now.
I hope you're right.
I usually agree with David Brooks political commentary. That hasn't changed with this post. Brooks is a thoughtful, sincere, articulate man.
Putin is definitely happy about this. It is not his fault. It is the fault of a very ignorant society. If he loses there will be no civil war. His hard core followers are just as cowardly as he is. They talk a lot of shit, but that is all it is. If he refuses to leave, he will be escorted out of the building.
I hope you're right but I'm not so sure as you.
@rogueflyer Who would stop him from being escorted out?
@Sticks48 45% of the American voters.
@rogueflyer That is not a how, That's a who. It seems he has a hard core following of about 25 to 30 percent. The rest is made up of upper middle class and the rich to wealthy who only care about taxes, and some just for his racists policies. That hardcore are the really stupid. The really stupid bitch and complain as they have done all of my life. When it gets right down to it they aThey will make a lot of ain't going to die for trump. They will make a lot of noise as they have all my life and that is it. IMO
@Sticks48 I don't know-how. Just that the possibility is there for a messy civil situation. But I take your point that you don't think there's anything to be concerned about.
@rogueflyer I'm more concerned what trump is going to do between now and November now that the Senate gave him the green light. It's like they think there will never be another Democratic President who might just decide to do whatever they like.
"Was this chaos Putin's ultimate goal?" I'd say it's right up there on his list but somewhat below seeing himself inaugurated as TSAR here.
