This is one for those from the UK but all comments are welcome.

There is a problem here with poor people who decide, stupidly, to borrow money from loan sharks. They can't get it anywhere else. The interest rates are sky-high.

And, when they can't pay the loan sharks come round to visit.

They try to persuade the debtors to give them money. This involves breaking ribs, breaking legs (but not fingers or throwing acid in their faces because the victim can't say they fell down stairs) and sending then to A&E or into hospital for a few days.

The cost to A&E and to the hospitals for admission is greater than what is owed. It would make more sense for the NHS to pay off the sharks than to treat their victims. But that would involve identifying them.

I have a friend who is caught in this trap and I can't give her any more money. She has four daughters who also suffer and one has had to change her job because they found out where she worked. I know this is not a religious topic - but agnostics are good people too.

What the hell do I do?
