My friend and user-interface designer who helped with this site has emerged from his hibernation and has some time to "modernize" some pages/features. Where should we work first? That is, is there a specific page or feature that you think is too complicated, a (sigh) bug, or perhaps there's some feature that you'd think would help improve the community? Let us know... thanks! Vote with your "likes" on suggests you like.
When making a post have the facility to list a number of headings and or groups to post directly into. My reasoning being that different groups are supported by people with differing opinions however a single post may evince response and opinion on a multitude of levels.
Did we have a unhappy or sad emoji? In the reactions to posts, specifically? I don’t tend to get angry as a go to emotion, although I understand many do, I get disappointed or sad. Is it an either /or thing? Or could we please cater for both personalities’ ‘go to’ emotions?
Thank you.
Timestamps in threads and direct chats.
There are time stamps on private messages just hover on it and you'll see it.
But not on posts...
@RavenCT My use of the site is primarily on Android with the app, there is no hovering. I also attempted to confirm your claim via chrome on windows, it doesn't seem to matter what I point to in a message dialog, nothing pops up. If I view the page source I can see that timestamps exist, just not visible through normal use.
@ShawnHicks You are right the app can be entirely different. I stopped using it even has n my phone and log onto n through Google. I just find it works better?
@ShawnHicks in messages just press the top left of the message box and the date/time appears in the bottom left. What would be great is to have a button that will open the date time on every message at the same time. We used to have an app specific group for things like this but it was not supported and eventually stolen and turned into non nude sexy photos or something equally puerile. There is nothing in the browser that I need that is not in the app and you can always open your account through a browser on the phone. For the last year I have been using" Opera One Touch" which is very easy to set up and intuitively use.
@Admin The suggestion of a date/time switch to show on all messages rather than switch on per message each time the mtm (member to member) account is opened?
I know I had an idea in the past but can't recall now. When it comes to me I will mention, but it might be late
Regarding 3, as far as I know there are a Share to facebook and a Share to twitter button on every post.
@Flowerwall It does not happen automatically unless you clicked a button.
I do not want ANY of my posts/comments/whatever posted on Facebook.
@FearlessFly Me neither.
@FearlessFly But nobody would send them to Facebook other than you. What is the fear about?
@itsmedammit
Is this fear not unfounded here? Nobody is sending your information other than you with a active choice.
Regarding repost to Facebook, perhaps we need a privacy selection so only those posts that the originator wants to go some place else are available to repost.
@Lorajay . . . as long as the default is opt-out
I would like a total membership number posted on the home page or somewhere easily viewed. It was once posted as such but now it has disappeared. A weekly update would be nice.
Press on the dark purple A on the top left folowed by the little vertical lines with the number alongside and the window opens onto the current statistics as in the photo:
@FrayedBear When I do that, I get the "List of Categories" -- no stats.
@FearlessFly Are you on computer or phone app?
@FrayedBear Found it on the upper right . Thanks.
Repeats of posts
One of my suggestions also Bob.
Perhaps I'm not understanding, but if there was a robust search, why repeat posts ?
@FearlessFly when you post something more than one is generated but not always and sometimes a repost is done without you doing it
@bobwjr AFAIK, cross-posting (the same post to different groups) is not disallowed. When creating a post, I try to pay attention to the "The following posts might be similar to the one you're writing" message (granted, it doesn't always work). I also comment on posts that are "dupes" in an attempt to suppress those that "fall thru the cracks".
@FearlessFly As i state different people have different interedts snd one post may not reach them. People like yourself with a huge variety of interests will get multiple notifications but sutely can self censor & not waste time looking at duplicates in other groups.
@FrayedBear I don't complain about cross-posting. I do try to suppress "dupes" in the same group.
@FearlessFly I try to delete mine, they are a pain in the rear end. The system is far better than it was in stopping them. I don't know if it is Parkinson tremor or an electronic glitch/ having to small a gap for double clicking.
@bobwjr That happens on my tablet but not my computer. There seems to be a slight delay. In my tablet I have hit post accidently more than once and had to delete copies of my post. No a big problem actually simply check the post to see if it is repeated.
I frequently find , when no one else has made a comment , and I make the first one , that I don't get the double points . When I'm working towards the 200,000 level , that's disappointing . I suspect that w\either the person writing the post or someone who starts to write a comment then decides not to , is causing the meter to run amuck .
The list of visitors to a post truncate at ten. Can we have a means to list them all?
On the map of members I notice that there are many flags showing against a number of cities. My list of close by members does not include more than 10-20%.
How do I search member lists for the site names of these people?
RE-Vamp groups.
I don't use them and I think it would be better to use an algorithm to watch what I am writing about, what I am clicking to see, and then use the terms for that to show me focused OPs.
This would clean up redundant groups and streamline the site making posts only availible in groups availible to people who might actually have an intrest in said group or topic .IMHO
How about actually assigning points related to the "Clicks" counter on [agnostic.com] as claimed on that page?
The "similar posts" hover pop up appears off the page (in other words, can't be read) when using the Firefox browser. I don't recall this issue before switching browsers.
On a Dell laptop, I should have said originally.
Computer or smartphone?
Have you tried "Opera One Touch"?
@FrayedBear Laptop, and I don't know what that is.
@Paul4747 Opera One Touch is one of the Opera (open source) family of browsers available on Android smartphones. I used to have Opera on my computers so presume that there is a Windows version for use on laptops. My alologies for having missing that you mention that you are using a laptop. [blogs.opera.com]
@FrayedBear I didn't mention "laptop" originally, I edited that line in after your question. No need to apologize.
I almost never go to this site on my phone... it has so much less functionality there, it seems.
I really hesitate to try a different browser, every time I switch it seems to take me an hour to sey up my preferences and import everything. I'm just barely computer literate as it is. (Well, maybe more than that, but it's a case of "grudgingly" literate. I hate being computer literate.)
@Paul4747 Thanks for the explanation - I thought that I had been careless.
On literacy I found that the more that you practice the more uninformed you realise that you are. Some programs like the one touch mentioned are blindingly intuitive and as they are open source (no cost to non commercial users, backed by a huge community around the world) an obvious "give it a go & see what it is like" particularly as it was recognised around the world as an innovative program. But each to their own proclivities .
When I find something interesting to share to Agnostic.com pressing the share icon produces a list or widgets for my apps or fbuk, Witter etc. but not the purple A for sharing into Agnostics.com postings.
