And used as evidence against you
Listen to this
Run"--The Clash
Yes. I just wish we had more of it. In our new snowflake society it seems like we can't say anything without someone protesting us. That's why I've got a big old man crush on this site. So far, nobody has swatted me on the nose with their asshurt about my opinions.
You seem to be one sided regressive illiberal. All religions and obviously Islam forbid freedom of speech and you talk about Nazis that have been iridicated while you want to erode the freedom of someone else. Are you really atheist?????????
????????????????????????
I do believe in free speech, but I also believe that those who exercise it can and shoudl be held reponsible for the consequences tht result directly from what they say. I also believe in practical limittions for public safety, such as the laws against yelling "fire" in a crowded place.
Freedome comes with responsbilities to use it wisely.
Are you real? Are you trolling. Those boundaries are respected through the system and the excess of propaganda and illusory power see magna carta or plato.
what to do with people who say terrible things is an issue . definition of terrible ?
Even if you don't like it or agree, its everyone's right!
Just as it's everyone's right to criticize said speech. There are many snowflakes of all political persuasions who conflate criticism with shutting down free speech. Largely, I suspect, because their arguments are inadequate and any half decent criticism DOES shut them down.
Remembering also that the framers of your constitution were working in a paradigm where democrats used polite, restrained, and reasoned speech precisely because aristos and tories were abusive and argued solely from a "might makes right" position. There was an expectation that free speech meant reasoned argument, not random sloganeering.
@PeppermintDreads Do you conflate criticism with being shut down?
Of course I believe in Freedom of Speech.
I also believe that whatever anyone chooses to say, has consequences.
Whether they are intended or not, better be prepared to deal with them.
Most people don't realize that the First Amendment only guarantees that
the government can't retaliate against you for speaking against it.
Whatever you choose to say can expose you to consequences from society in general.
No one is protected against that.
