Once...when I was very young and full of myself...I made a statement that went along the line that "those that can do...do. Those that can't do, teach. A bystander replied "teachers build lives, what do you do?"
It seems when younger, we try to walk in the shoes of wisdom, without knowing our feet are too small
An interesting way of saying small minded....and true
You picked up that line about teachers from George Bernard Shaw. Unlike your bystander, Shaw had forgotten that he was taught by a teacher.
Thank you for your comment. At that age, I'm sure I picked up the line from somewhere and thought it sounded snappy. Don't remember where it came from.
I believe the saying was not originally meant as derogatory, but that in the times before formal schools, people were mentored. Once you were too old to continue doing you taught the younger how to do what you did. Even now, my brother in law was a very skilled surgeon but can no longer use a scalpel, so he mentors/teaches.
Thank you for your comment... young and foolish, and very shallow-minded, children say the damnest things, for the damnest reasons. A million and seventy-six kudos to the brother-in-law.
Sounds pretty foolish to me. Teachers shape hundreds of lives...I just chased money. I would never cast dispersion on them.
As I have sais about myself since...young, foolish, and shallow-minded..
