I agree in principle, but I imagine it would be a bit hard to keep a positive view of much if you and your kids were in the middle of a war zone.
Generally these types of aphorisms are meant to express a point, but not necessarily an all-encompassing point . . . . . after all, if an all encompassing point is to be made, it would best be made under the austere establishment of scientific proof.

Tell that to Julius Caesar
Caesar prefered initiating events as opposed to being affected by events, but in then end, it was the view he took of events that did him in. That happens with a lot of people who gain to much power, yet still want more.

Whatever view he took of it, he was pretty much going to die.
