This site is a broad church (sorry) we have different political, sexual, music, humor, and even degrees of agnostic vs atheistic views. But the one thing that we do have in common is that we have all to a great degree rejected the idea of a diety. So it is natural that we share those thoughts.
Sometimes this is because members have either left a church and/or have family/friends still in the church. They are looking for help and support or reasoned arguments to use.
I do think that you have some points to your post. Quite frankly I never really thought about or examined my atheism much before joining here. However, I have enjoyed singing in the same choir.
That said there are many groups here that never really talk about religion.

I haven't been abused by religious nuts here recently, but I haven't been keeping up with my messages.

Atheists are usually Antitheists - we do tend to discuss the religitards and their impact on the world around us, it's a thing.

@MissKathleen I would say it is a perfectly apt suffix - intellectually underdeveloped due to religious programming.

@TheMiddleWay Can I just cut to the chase and call you a pc twat, move right to the ad hominem response. Whenever I see that you are making a response to one of my posts I just know it is going to be some mambi pambi bs, usually with a bunch of pissing and moaning. When you see my posts, just don't read them, they will only offend you but something tells me you wake up offended each morning.

@TheMiddleWay It's not about how I feel, it's about your prissy attitude. When it comes to you I don't feel anything except a mild annoyance, like having a fly buzzing around the room. It's meaningless but still vaguely annoying.

I think more references are made to religion because there's many discussions about it. I now know more about religion, the bible, etc than I did as a believer.

This site is a journey for many of us. I welcome religious discussions on here. Its helped me to be more confident when I get asked questions and, in some cases, refer to specific passages and practices that will support my argument.

I have to say No. I mean, no more than a site for Democrats might "shove" talk about Republicans "down your throat", or vice versa.

You have to realize a lot of it is sort of "know your enemy" type of posts, and much more is just fascination with how anyone could willingly go along with such tripe.

I still like some of the Flying Spaghetti Monster talks that happen in the general area. I also understand the ex-believers that post them there. Yet, I don't like the believers that come here and post them. You also have to understand that there are people here who range from life long nonbelievers to having recently becoming one and they post in general as a start.

Nope

I fail to see how any religion could be forced on someone in the net at all. You are in control, you can just click and vanish!

Nor do I think exposure to some religious idea equals "shoved down your throat", that sounds more like childhood indoctrination or your own sensitivity after escaping that yourself.

Nobody can "shove anything down your throat" if you keep your mouth shut and your back turned.

I haven’t noticed that.

Honestly, I haven't been on this site much for a year or more, so I don't know what you are reading or experiencing. That said, it is not uncommon for atheists and agnostics to discuss religion, especially for those of us that were raised in a faith. I have been an atheist for a long time, and a secularist for decades before that - one of the most important things to me is to be able to offer recognition and opportunity to those who question their own faith - to be there for them, and let them know: it's ok, there is a world beyond religion; we are here to help and offer community.

If theists look and lurk in these comments - great! Maybe they will learn something. You shouldn't see it as a burden; take the time to teach them that we are #GoodWithoutGod, and morality is not contingent on the promise of eternal reward, or the threat of eternal damnation.

STOP reading the general posts. Just read your chosen groups.

It's one of the reasons I almost stopped visiting here.

There are many noobs here who have recently escaped. At first they spew their anger at being stupid for too long.

We, as oldsters, must endure, and counsel.

And, oh yeah. Militancy is necessary given the spread and invasion of the islamer evil, the worst religion ever.

I've been here for a while, and haven't had that experience here. That's the reason I come here. I don't think I've been preached at one time on this site.

Seems to me religion is spit up and out here and not shoved down anyone's throat.

Who here is telling you to worship their God (or else), pay offerings to their church (or else), or shaming you for your belief/disbelief different from theirs?
