I just saw a commercial on NBC for JC Superstar live Sunday night with Alice Cooper as King Herod.
I got nuttin'
I never seen the show but back in 1969-1970, it was playing at the Agora in Columbus Ohio for quite a while. I knew a guy named Ian that lived around the corner from the Agora (on 13th). This guy did the lights for shows at the Agora. He looked almost exactly like John Lenon back then, glasses and all. I was new to smoking pot and hadn't really felt it yet. We were in his living room sparking up when a few of the people from the show dropped by. The first time I really got high, Jesus (from Jesus Christ Super Star) was there with me. How many people can say they've smoked a joint with Jesus? I did.
One more starry eyed messiah....
Meets a violent farewell
Alice Cooper is a Christian. I believe it's because he is an alcoholic in recovery. His father was a clergy and depending on what program he used to achieve and maintain soberity a lot of those are "faith" or spirituality based. His faith keeps him sober which means he's still around so I can't fault him for that. He's not obnoxious about it which is probably why it doesn't matter to me with him.
Had a very popular run on Broadway in the 1970s. Multiple revivals. Andrew Lloyd Webber did the music, the production concentrates on the last week of his life. Not a lot of religious overtones in it, actually. Nobody rises, he dies. Was condemned by multiple religious groups in its initial run.
The only music from Andrew Lloyd Weber that I like. If I had a TV I'd watch it. I appreciate the "passion" as a good story well told.
I gotta watch it just to see Alice Cooper in it!
I plan on watching it for the music soundtrack. Alice Cooper as Judas! Looking forward to it. An old bf of mine at 21 was a dancer and singer in the movie.
I may watch. I don't know.
The story is a good one even if I don't believe it true.
I watch lots of fiction.
Worth watching for the music. Great score although I like Godspell more. Belief is not required. I never believed that a blind, deaf and dumb boy could be some kind of magical "pinball wizard" but I enjoyed "Tommy" during the heydays of rock musicals.
@DotLewis it is the original music, as I understand,
Go Alice! No more mister nice guy! Roflol!
@Bierbasstard lol! He will be the king instead of a minister so you should be safe this time.
