Well folks we’re officially in lockdown here in the U.K. P.M. Boris Johnson has just spoken to the nation on TV. Everything is closed down for the next three weeks at least. All shops must close except chemists and food stores, and we must not leave home unless it’s to buy food or medicine, or go to work (those who work in essential services only). We can also go out once a day to exercise, either alone or with 1 member of the same household. The Police have been given powers of arrest if we contravene any of these new directives, but with only a £30 penalty fine, that doesn’t seem much of a deterrent to my mind.
If these selfish wankers, who thought they were young and healthy so were immune from this virus, had not gone out in huge numbers to the parks and beauty spots at the weekend (there were traffic jams on the roads to some National Parks on Saturday & Sunday, and there was almost a partying mood with some, like it was a public holiday!), they would not have had the need to resort to such draconian measures. Can you understand their mentality, because I can’t?
Looks like Boris has finally dropped the clown’s act, and is beginning to sound like a serious politician with a crisis on his hands!
I know there are some people here who refuse to "like" any comments that include profanity.
Well... I find the behaviour of these little fuckers profane. Selfish fucking, cocksmoking bastards, all of them.
Stay the fuck home!
It's making those of us who give a shit about other people, have to stay home much longer!
OK I will give you a like, not only because I agree, but also on principle.
Same on this side of the pond. But I still can’t listen to Trump without screaming at the TV! They have had to take drastic measures to get the young adults off the beaches and out of the parks here as well, with only moderate success. Best of luck and I hope your clown didn’t wait too long to start being serious about this virus.
Stricter measures are active in some places here in Canada too, but the fines levied will be $1,500 for a person, $10,000 for a business. That's a lot more substantial than £30.
Do this voluntarily, or do it by force, but you WILL do it!
They need to make the fine much bigger here...£30 will never work as a deterrent!
@Marionville No, that's not going to stop anyone from doing as they damn please.
I can understand young folks being rebellious, but under these circumstances??? Doesn't make sense to me either.
I heard the tail end of the PM's address, and he did sound quite serious. What little I heard seemed to be devoid of political partisan rhetoric.
Behind the usual public facade there lurks a pretty capable mind!
@Petter He has a brilliant mind...he’s a classicist, but prefers to hide it behind a veneer of buffoonery!
No...this has all political persuasions working together, nobody is trying to score points.
@Marionville @bingst I'm certainly pleased we have him rather than May or, mythical heaven forbid, Corbyn.
@bingst No you are wrong...it’s all an act that Boris puts on....he is extremely clever, but lazy and careless with the language he uses,
@Petter At the moment I agree...his politics I abhor, but this crisis goes beyond partisan politics.
@Marionville You're lucky for that.
That's hardly lockdown compared to Spain. Here, even jogging is an offence, and fines are applied without hesitation.
I live on the coast. The beaches and seaside promenades are taped off.
It’ll come here too...in another week or so, we’re just behind the curve compared to you.
@Marionville Slowcoaches!!
@Petter Every country is at a different point on that curve...that’s why it’s futile to compare the statistics between countries.
@Marionville Spain didn't apply the restrictions piecemeal. They arrived over the course of a single weekend.
