The future of human societies lies with renewable energy/ robotics/ AI. Self sufficiency and a move away from consumerism. Basic needs of food, water, shelter met via these technologies.
Where I am going with this is one day, so that people may interact and trade, a universal wage will be introduced as there will be no consumer driven society; no workers to make consumer products and no wage earners to buy it. A "universal wage" or something similar will occur in the future.
It can be done eg I read the corporate bailout happening now equates $5,000USD every man/ woman/ child in the USA, well there's your first year of universal wage. So why not give to people rather than abstract entities?

If it is to be done then it seems like a bloody good time to do it to me, as people need money but are unable to work anyway.
